Superhero Origin Movies

Man, there sure seem to be a lot of superhero origin movies. Do we really need to spend another hour of another movie watching how a certain hero came to be? Peter Parker is a nerdy high school student who is bitten by a radioactive spider and learns that with great power comes great responsibility. Superman is sent to Earth from his dying home planet, discovers superpowers and decides to stand for truth, justice and the American way. Doesn't everybody already know this stuff?

And if they didn't know it, why not just watch the other movies where these things happened? Or read the stacks of comics where they happened. Or watch the animated and live action shows where they happened. Or get on Wikipedia and read the first paragraph of the character's page.

It seems like audiences today are starving for something new, but time and time again, studios hit that "reset button" and suddenly we're back in the classroom with wimpy Peter Parker, looking at our watches, waiting for him to get bitten by the friggin' spider already.

  3. Great post. Screw Spiderman, lets have a ROM movie, or Deathshead, or Rocket raccoon.

(Rocket Raccoon directed by DelToro would be frickin' awesome)

  4. Thanks!

I've been hearing rumors about a Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Seems like Thanos might work better as the villain for that instead of the Avengers.
